On the use of hierarchical prediction structures for efficient summary generation of H.264/AVC bitstreams

چکیده
Video summarization refers to an important set of abstraction techniques aimed to provide a compact representation of the video essential to effectively browse and retrieve video content from multimedia repositories. Most of these video summarization techniques, such as image storyboards, video skims and fast previews, are based on selecting some frames or segments. H.264/AVC has become a widely accepted coding standard and is expected that many of the content will be available in this format soon. This paper proposes a generic model of video summarization especially suitable for generating summaries of H.264/AVC bitstreams in a highly efficient manner, using the concept of temporal scalability via hierarchical prediction structures. Along with the model, specific examples of summarization techniques are given to prove the utility of

Real-Time BSD-Driven Adaptation Along the Temporal Axis of H.264/AVC Bitstreams
MPEG-21 BSDL offers a solution for exposing the structure of a binary media resource as an XML description, and for the generation of a tailored media resource using a transformed XML description. The main contribution of this paper is the introduction of a real-time work flow for the XML-driven adaptation of H.264/AVC bitstreams in the temporal domain. This real-time approach, which is in line...
متن کاملQuality Scalability in H.264/AVC Video Coding
It is well-known that the problem of addressing heterogeneous networks in multicast can be solved by simultaneous transmission of multiple bitstreams of different bitrates and by layered encoding. This paper analyzes the use of H.264/AVC video coding in simulcast and for layered encoding. The sub-sequence feature of H.264/AVC enables hierarchical temporal scalability, which allows disposal of r...
متن کاملDirect Transcoding of AVC/H.264 Bitstreams for Bitrate Reduction with Minimized Video Quality Losses
The paper deals with transcoding of AVC/H.264 bitstreams where some bitrate reduction is required. For single-layer bitstreams, often Cascaded Pixel Domain Transcoders (CPDT) are used unaware of the fact that such transcoders are complex and very inefficient when used for bitrate reduction not exceeding 30% of the primary bitrate. In order to avoid these disadvantages, the authors propose struc...
متن کاملTemporal Segmentation Applied to Hierarchical Coding Structures in H.264/AVC
This paper presents a new shot boundary detection algorithm that operates directly on compressed data present in H.264/AVC bitstreams. As this video specification contains a number of new coding tools, prior algorithms can no longer be applied. Furthermore, new coding paradigms such as hierarchical patterns are introduced as well. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that exploits this pyrami...
